GESS Students’ Role in Celebrating 60 Years of Diplomatic Ties

Buddy Bear Handover Ceremony Gardens By The Bay 3

GESS students got to leave their own mark during the celebration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Germany. As part of the celebrations, a United Buddy Bears exhibition and handover ceremony was jointly organised by Gardens by the Bay and Buddy Bear Berlin, with the cooperation of the Embassy of the Republic of Germany in Singapore.

Students adorned the Buddy Bears gifted to Singapore with hand-crafted ceramic flowers. To create these flowers, our students first participated in a ceramics workshop with Sculpture Society, Singapore.

GESS students also played a hands-on role by serving as ushers and offering a professional welcome to distinguished guests such as the German Ambassador to Singapore, Dr Bettina Fanghänel, and Guest of Honour Minister of State Dinesh Vasu Dash. Additionally, student performers entertained guests with stunning musical performances.

The symbolic event and GESS students’ participation in it gave them a glimpse into the cultural nuances of international relations. It also provided a reminder of GESS’ unique role in fostering connection and understanding across cultures.
