Junior Engineer Academy (JIA) In Action!
Did you know that GESS is the first school outside of Europe accepted into the esteemed Junior Engineer Academy (JIA) network? Incepted by the Deutsche Telekom Foundation in 2005 with the goal of fostering interest in the technical and engineering sector among young students between the ages of 13 to 14, GESS’ very own JIA students get an early headstart into exploring a potential future career in this field, from Grade 8 and 9. Students who complete the full 2 years programme will get a certificate endorsed by GESS, the Junior Engineer Academy and the Deutsche Telekom Stiftung.
Originally planned for a maximum of 10 students, we currently have 16, with more on the waitlist. Some of the key projects this school year include:
📍Coding and 3D printing
📍Orientating our students to Lego Mindstorms and coding (e.g. races, obstacle courses, carrying objects around), as they prepare for…
📍Lego League Challenge, a worldwide competition where participants have to design, build, and programme a robot to solve different tasks on a competition board. Additionally, they will need to identify and solve a scientific question. GESS will be holding our own inhouse competition before sending our representatives off to the global arena.
📍More inter-school competitions in Singapore, to foster teamwork, let our students learn about project and time management, and basically more avenues for our budding engineers to showcase their talents and passion!
