Learning in Nature: GESS Forest School Programme
Our Forest School Programme for Preschool learners has been introduced to give our youngest students enhanced opportunities to explore, inquire, and learn in nature.
The programme is led by certified Forest School leader, James Fox. Students participate in weekly sessions with James for one quarter of the year, followed by continued nature-based learning with their class teacher, guided by his expertise.
Initial sessions took place in the green spaces of the Dairy Farm Nature Reserve, just across from the campus. Looking ahead, a dedicated jungle learning area is planned for creation directly on the Preschool campus.
Through hands-on exploration children build and learn to collaborate, embrace safe risk-taking, and strengthen their confidence. Each session reinforces respect and stewardship by beginning with three guiding rules: look after yourself, look after each other, and look after the jungle.
At GESS, learning extends beyond the classroom door and into the wild, where imagination, inquiry, and wellbeing grow hand in hand.
